Grade: VF
You have heard of private named banks, well, George West is a private named town. It was started in 1913 by George Washington West and Katie West on land they had ranched since 1880. He sold off his cattle to start the town. He offered $100,000 and free easement to the railroad to build to his town and offered $75,000 to build a new courthouse if the county seat was moved from Oakville. It was moved in 1918. West also built schools, roads and facilities to provide water and electricity. The town faired better than its only national bank. The First National Bank stayed in business only 8 years and has only a few notes remaining. This new discovery increases the small size count to seven.
