Cherryvale, Montgomery Co. NB, 4749
Fr. 1801-1 $10 1929T1
Grade:
VF/XF
This tiny hamlet is half the size today that it was in the 1920s. Then Cherryvale was a major railroad hub and a center for zinc mining. Four National Banks opened here, the first in 1884, but three of them didn t last very long. Only the Montgomery County NB survived, doing business for 39 years until hard times forced it into receivership in 1931. Less than a dozen small notes remain, and this example appears to be one of the best. Bright and well-centered.
