This is the scarcest variety of the $20 1863 Legals. Track & Price has observed just 12 examples, with this VF-30 being the best. The note was acquired by the current owner from our December 1998 sale. Minor edge restorations are noted, but the work was very professionally executed. The note is just too nice to let the Apparent notation slow you down. It has been over six years since the last Fr. 126a was offered in a major auction. That note was Tom Flynn s PMG VF 20 that brought $12,650. A perfect combination of rarity and grade that should result in a realization towards the upper end of our range.
