December 1, 1873. The central vignette on this scarce 1873 issue shows Sergeants Jasper and Newton rescuing American prisoners from the British, a painting by John Blake White (1781-1859). Vignettes of General Daniel Morgan on the left and Josey on the right add to the attractiveness of this note. A handwritten cancelled notation, as well as a single cut cancel, is observed best on the back. This note should not to be confused with the more commonly seen March 2, 1872 issue. Criswell CR# 16.
