Two wonderful small head $100 FRN solid serial numbered notes have appeared in the Billy Key sale two years ago, and both of them were serial #11111111. The reason this specific note being offered today, is exceptionally rare, is that the BEP in early years, simply didn't print most $100 FRN blocks up to this serial number. Most serial number ranges ended far lower than this serial number. In fact the very first time the BEP ever printed a small size $100 FRN with serial #7777777 came from the 1974 series AND it was the only solid 7's printed for any district in this series. You are looking at it right now. It was not until the 1985 series that another $100 serial #7777777 was printed and then again only ONE solid 7's was printed in that series. Referring again to the Collector's Guide to Modern Federal Reserve Notes, by Robert Azpiazu, Jr, we see the number of $100 FRNs printed with serial #77777777 for all districts is as follows: 1969 = 0, 1969A = 0, 1969C = 0, 1974 = 1 (this note), 1977 = 1, 1981 = 0, 1981A = 0, 1985 = 2, 1988 = 4, 1990 = 13 and 1993 = 4. Only a total of 25 $100 FRN solid serial #77777777 from all districts were printed over 25 years. If you want rare, this note should satisfy that definition. $100 1974 FRN B77777777A.
