Lot #1014 - Denver, First NB, 1016

National Bank Notes > Colorado

Denver, First NB, 1016
Fr. 1804-1 $100 1929T1
Grade: Ch. AU
This $100 is one of the finest specimens obtainable for this denomination on the First NB without spending considerably more for one of the uncirculated serial #1 notes that are known. That is assuming one were to appear at auction, an event that has yet to take place according to our records. As a matter of fact, no $100 this nice has be auctioned in the 20 years since we sold an AU in February 1995! Only seven Colorado banks issued $100s. Don't confuse this special note with the far more common $100 from the Colorado NB. From the Rocky Mountain Collection. ---- Denver was founded in November 1858 as a mining town during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush in western Kansas Territory. The rush began in July 1858 and lasted until roughly the creation of the Colorado Territory on February 28, 1861. An estimated 100,000 gold seekers took part in one of the greatest gold rushes in North American history. Denver was a frontier town, with an economy based on servicing local miners with gambling, saloons, livestock and goods trading.
Current Bid: $ 800.00
