Since we offered this #1 note in December 2008 for $4,140 there have been only a trio of average circ small size available for collectors. This is a fresh, well centered and original serial #A000001A. The census says there are two uncut sheets but there is likely only one left because this $5 sheet is now cut. From the Rocky Mountain Collection. ---- Denver was founded in November 1858 as a mining town during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush in western Kansas Territory. The rush began in July 1858 and lasted until roughly the creation of the Colorado Territory on February 28, 1861. An estimated 100,000 gold seekers took part in one of the greatest gold rushes in North American history. Denver was a frontier town, with an economy based on servicing local miners with gambling, saloons, livestock and goods trading.
