Lot #1034 - Mancos, First NB, 9674

National Bank Notes > Colorado

Mancos, First NB, 9674
Fr. 1802-1 $20 1929T1
Grade: XF
This is another new addition to the Mancos census from the Rocky Mountain Collection, which now stands at 15 small size reported. It is also no surprise that this $20 is also the finest small note now known. The snappy, white paper still shows traces of embossing. Low end Fines consistently bring in the $500-$600 range, so expect this bright example to bring quite a bit more. ---- The town of Mancos was founded in 1894, near the site where early Spanish explorers first crossed the Mancos River, from which the town got its name. At the turn of the century, Mancos served as the primary trading center for the eastern part of the county, rivaling Dolores to the northwest.
