SECOND FINEST Fr. 7 $10 DEMAND NOTE

Fr. 7 $10 1861 Philadelphia
Grade:
PCGS VF 30 Apparent
Tied for second finest, behind a lone example one grade higher, this note has exceptional signatures with tremendous body to the paper. Margins exceed generous and truly border on gigantic for these notoriously closely-trimmed rarities which, in the opinion of many specialists, remain tremendously undervalued relative to their rarity and importance in American fiscal history as the first 'greenbacks.' A PCGS VF 25 brought $21,850 in a Stacks-Bowers sale last year; this seemingly nicer piece should realize as much or more. PCGS notes: small edge splits and mounting remnants on back. We didn't even notice the 'small edge splits' when the piece was raw and certainly they are invisible through the holder. Also (the two) mounting remnants on back are both relatively minor.
