National Bank Notes > Nebraska
Holdrege, City NB, W4345
Fr. 618 $10 1902DB
Grade:
VF/XF +
This extremely scarce Nebraska note is a wonderful addition to the census. The quality is superior to any of the other four notes bearing this title, including the 'B' position note from the same sheet that we have offered twice in the last decade. Actually, the 'B' position note is the only piece from those reported that has ever made it into a public sale. Although the sheet mate to this note is graded VF 25, I can't imagine that it could look as nice as this top of the sheet 'A' note. Four light vertical folds and a horizontal bend prevents an unqualified XF grade, but if a VF 39 was available, this note would make the grade. Outstanding signatures of E. E. Nelson, Asst. Cashier and J. L. Doherty, Vice President add extra value. The entire issue from this bank only amounted to $281,500, and over a third of that went to the very early Brown Backs that bore the United States NB title. The bank closed early, liquidating in July, 1914. From the Rocky Mountain Collection.
