National Bank Notes > Nevada

Reno, Farmers & Merchants NB, P7038
Fr. 613 $10 1902RS
Grade: F/VF
The signatures on this note of Richard Kirman, President and W.J. Harris, Cashier are printed. This note is one of five Red Seals known on this bank, three are listed as lower grades and one as higher. --- Reno was ‘the spot’ in Nevada in the early days and that’s where the Nevada First Charters are from. The gambling was big and this was the commercial hub for decades and the national banking period was long gone before business in the state moved to the southern side. These banks were chartered to print National Bank Notes. First #2478 was chartered in 1880 and closed in 1896. Then the Farmers & Merchants National Bank of Reno was chartered in November 1903, in June 1929 they changed the title to the First National Bank of Reno. Three years later, in 1906, the Nixon National Bank of Reno was chartered. Both banks issued Red Seals because that was the note they were printing at that time.
