Certainly one of, if not the, rarest of all the Burke-Glass issues. The Atlanta $50 shows just three reported in the Gengerke census, a number that has remained unchanged for years, with one of these permanently impounded in the collection of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. This district had the most paltry issue of $50s: a mere 840,000 pieces for ALL signature combinations combined. It is not known exactly how many of these were Burke-Glass issues, but it is estimated to be a small fraction, perhaps as low as 10%. The last offering of a Fr. 1045 was one of the census pieces which brought close to $2500 back in the much weaker market of 2003. This new discovery will certainly raise some eyebrows and give another collector the chance to add this rare Burke-Glass issue to his collection. Though the paper is slightly toned, the note is solid and attractive for the grade.
