Fr. 401 $5 1875
Grade:
VF
This $5 has an abundance of what First Charter notes are known for: rich colors and fabulous contrast. If that were not enough, it is incredibly rare as well. Only two other notes have been traced, and this is the best of the three by a wide margin. Great pen signatures only add to the desirability. Track & Price, which covers decades of major auction sales, has been unable to locate a single offering of a note from this bank. We need to mention a few scattered pinholes, but they are extremely small and affect nothing. This bank issued First Charters only before closing in 1885.
