January 1, 1838. This bank was located in the so-called "Toledo Strip", an area claimed by both the territory of Michigan and the state of Ohio. This dispute almost led to armed conflict between the two in 1835, when the federal government arbitrated a deal that gave this area to Ohio while Michigan got the current Upper Peninsula. This is a nice note from this bank. Haxby OH-260, G40.
