The city of Leavenworth was incorporated in the mid-1850s, long after the Fort had been established near there, and in January 1864 this became the first national bank chartered in the state of Kansas. There are currently only two Original Series notes known to have survived these early western days in the great state of Kansas. This is a beautiful, well cared for note that should be the prize of any collection. This note is Treasury #173099 and serial #3157C. The other note is serial #8532A and only grades as Good. The plate date on this note is January 2, 1865.
