Grade: PCGS Fine 15 Apparent     PCGS
Hartshorne is located in Pittsburg County in the heart of the Indian Territory. This was the only bank chartered during the Territorial period and there were only 1,314 sheets printed. This note, with excellent pen signatures, is the top note with selvage from the top of the sheet. Charles Hartshorne was president of the Choctaw, Coal and Railway and that was over a decade before incorporation. This area was part of the 'Trail of Tears' and the Indians also had early contact with Black Herdsmen of the area. Coal became the industry of choice during the late 19th and early 20th century. There is a tear in the selvage that doesn't go into the design but I would hate to remove it. The #1 note is also known but it's of lower quality. There are six other Third Charters recorded, although these are statehood dated. PCGS notes: edge splits and tears, extra selvage at top.
