Spencer Clark is depicted at center, and he is the reason that no living person can be depicted on United States Currency. Members of Congress were not happy when his likeness appeared on this note, and, while other living persons were depicted on other notes at the time, it was Clark's that drove Congress to enact the law that stands today.
