This is a very attractive, original note with excellent signatures. The Farmers & Merchants Bank is the second rarest bank in Orange County, with only four notes known. This institution issued notes for less than 14 years before closing in 1919. Of the four recorded notes, only two have ever made public auction appearances: a $20 1902 Plainback in G/VG was sold as part of the Krakover sale in 1990, and this note which was once part of the Colver Collection and later the Horwedel Collection.
