July 1, 1873. This note was actually a railroad ticket for the fare of one passenger a distance of twenty five miles. The railroad issued these attractive green and black "fare tickets" immediately after the Civil War as a means of getting around prohibitions against circulating privately issued paper money. There are some edge tears that has been sealed.
