Belvidere $5 The Belvidere Bank

January 1, 1863. The Belvidere Bank was incorporated in 1831 and became the Belvidere National Bank, charter number 1096, in 1865. "Counterfeit" has been written vertically in black ink on the face of this note. The green "5 FIVE" overprint was not applied evenly and slants up to the right. These counterfeit notes are listed in the Wait reference with a rarity rating of R7, indicating 1 to 5 known. A large amount of tape was applied to the back to repair splits. Haxby NJ-10 G24c.
