A tough large note from a tiny Adams County community located just a couple miles south of Gettysburg. The town was the site of the Battle of Fairfield on July 3, 1863, at the same time as the Battle of Gettysburg. Confederate cavalry was able to secure the Hagerstown Road, which facilitated General Lee's retreat into Virginia. Though well circulated, the note does sport super aqua pen signatures of James Cunningham, cashier, and C.P. Bream, vice president.
