ELUSIVE NB OF THE COMMONWEALTH

National Bank Notes > New York

New York, NB of the Commonwealth in the City, 1372
Fr. 387 $2 Original
Grade: VF
This is one of New York City's most elusive banks from which notes are reported. The current census stands at just three pieces, two $1 notes and this lone Deuce. This note has been off the market so long it is only listed in the Kelly census with a grade but no serial number. Knowing the source of the collection from whence this note came, I'm fairly certain the listed note and this piece are the same. The note is nice, in spite of a number of tiny pinholes and a short margin split at the top center fold. The bank, chartered in 1865, lasted just eight years. Some five years ago the lower grade of the two $1 notes was offered on EBay, and eight years before that the nicer Ace was auctioned. Worth a serious bid.
Current Bid: $ 7,500.00

Estimate: ($ 7,500.00 - $ 12,500.00)
