Lot #2211 - New York, Mechanics & Traders NB of the City, 1624

FINEST OF TWO KNOWN

National Bank Notes > New York

New York, Mechanics & Traders NB of the City, 1624
Fr. 397 $5 Original
Grade: AU
This impossibly rare bank issued First Charters only and lasted just 19 years before closing in 1884. The total population of notes known amounts to just two pieces, this lovely AU and a VG. The low grade note, also an Original Series $5, was sold once in a 1989 Hickman sale and then again in our February 2003 sale. This note was known to exist, but was ensconced in this major New York City collection for several decades, and unavailable to the then current group of collectors. To be fair, the note does have some faults like pinholes and edge splits repaired with stamp hinges. However, they are not severe and a little professional restoration would do wonders for the note. Worthy of a strong bid.
Current Bid: $ 4,500.00

Estimate: ($ 7,500.00 - $ 15,000.00)
