National Bank Notes > New York

New York, Ninth NB of the City, 387
Fr. 479 $10 1882BB
Grade: VF
The Ninth National Bank is one of the tough 'numbered' banks in the city with just 22 examples listed in the census. The overwhelming issue were notes from the First Charter, with a mere handful of Brown Backs printed near the end before the bank was liquidated. However, a fair number of notes from the reported examples are counterfeit Deuces, making genuine specimens of any type all the more valuable. This $10 is one of only two Brown Backs known on the bank and is a new addition to the census. The top and bottom margins are frayed and tape has been used to reinforce the folds and halt the progress of some of the larger tears. A scarce note and unusual type for the bank.
