This lovely 1875 First Charter $50 is one of the highlights of this, or for that matter any sale of National Bank notes. This is a blue-end paper, or in this case the blue is in the center of the note and it's not too pronounced. The paper quality is very nice and the color is better than the grade. It has exceptional pen signatures and the only flaw I can find are three closed pinholes! Records indicate that there are sixty-seven 1875 Series $50s known in all hands, and there are 33 Original Series $50s known as well. This number includes a total of six National Gold Bank Notes which really need their own category; three of those are in institutions. Now, back to the 1875 Series notes; eight of the sixty-seven notes are in institutions and are unlikely to be available leaving fifty-four 1875 Series and twenty-four Original Series notes. Only 19 of the 59 are comparable or likely better than this beauty with none of the Original Series notes that would grade higher. This note was sold decades ago by Kagin's to a client and that client did well with his purchase.
