May 28, 1861. Very scarce merchant scrip of N.L. Kencaster "Bank of Industry" at Martinsburg, then still a part of Virginia. West Virginia did not become a separate state until 1863. George Washington at left. Beehive at upper right. Small repair at top margin. A scarce early Civil War West Virginia issue.
