Haxby US-1-G10. 179_ .This is an extremely rare first series proof printed on laid paper that was used for counterfeit detection purposes and was originally sent to the Marblehead customs office for that purpose. This is one of the earliest listed obsolete note types and is included in the Newman reference also (page 366 of the fifth edition). The details are much stronger than even the seldom encountered counterfeits from the series. The last offering of First Bank proofs was in Stack s 52 Collection Part I in June, 2010. This denomination was not present in that sale, but a $10 proof from the series realized $10,350 and a few higher denominations brought significantly more. Handling from its former transmittal envelope only. Historic and significant.
