Lot #811 - Adolph Pearl 10˘ Fractional Look-alike

Fractional Currency

Adolph Pearl 10˘ Fractional Look-alike
Grade: PCGS Apparent Abt. New 55     PCGS
An exceptional Fractional look-alike which almost perfectly mimics the Third Issue 10˘ note. An ad note issued by "Adolph Pearl....Manufacturer of Tobacco" with "United States Tobacco Currency" surrounding the central portrait. It even bears facsimile signatures at the bottom of Adolph Pearl. Printed by Ferd. Mayer & Sons 96 Fulton St. New York. Some stains have been noted by PCGS and the back is blank. The only other ad note of this type that we can recall is that of a druggist/florist named A.M. Knowlson of Troy, NY. Most Fractional mimics are of 25˘ and 50˘ backs. We have seen a couple others of this 10˘ type but that were not as fully convincing as a mimic as this one is. Most recently the Newman collection had a similar example on Elk Grove, IL, grading VF 20, which sold for almost $750.
Current Bid: $ 360.00

Estimate: ($ 600.00 - $ 1,200.00)
