Philadelphia Bank of the United States $1,000
Grade:
Ch. CU
G-100. December 15, 1840. This is not the usually seen example of this high denomination note, as this piece is payable at the bank's branch in New York rather than at its principal office in Philadelphia. Wonderful vignette of the second bank of the United States building (still standing in Philadelphia) at top, with famous Americans in cameos at the margins. A lovely example of this popular type!
