Scarce One Shilling Sword in Hand

Colonial Currency > Massachusetts

MA-158 1 Shilling August 18, 1775
Grade: PMG Fine 12 Net     PMG
The first Sword in Hand issue and the lowest denomination. Notes of this type have always been extraordinarily popular with collectors due to the American Revolutionary figure holding a sword in one hand and a copy of the Magna Carta in the other, as well as the fact that these were engraved and printed by the famous Colonial patriot Paul Revere. This is the only one of the 16 denominations that has a pine tree vignette instead of a small ship. PMG has cited tape repairs and halves sewn together at center, with the tape being on the back. Not a note available in higher grades, with the 5th edition Newman listing this note at $10,000 in Fine, nearly triple the price of all the other 15 denominations. Always a four-figure note as this one will no doubt be.
Current Bid: $ 800.00

Estimate: ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
