October 16, 1778 2 Pence, 8 Pence, 4 Shilling 6 Pence Vertical Strip of Three Notes
Grade:
PCGS Ch. Abt. New 55
It is very unusual these days to find a quality vertical strip of Codfish notes intact but this is just such an item. Bright and wonderfully signed with three broad sheet margins. The reason for the AU grade is primarily for some sheet handling along the right edge as well as some handled corners. With AU examples individually bringing low four-figure prices the chop value of this strip would be over $3,000, although the two-pence note appears to have a real shot at a high CU grade. As a strip, this should be worth well beyond its cut up value as the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
