PA-224a 4 Pounds April 10, 1777
Grade:
PCGS Apparent Abt. New 50
One of the best kept secrets of Colonial currency is that this note is a closet rarity. The black only example of this highest denomination is much, much scarcer than the typically seen red and black note, which is commonly encountered in AU grade. The combined Population Reports from both grading services have shown that this black only printed note is five times scarcer than the red and black printed 4 Pound note. While PCGS does mention a replaced corner tip and a small edge tear, it should be noted that this is one of the prettiest examples your cataloger has ever seen.
