Certainly not a scarce bank but always a popular one since it was originally chartered as one of the first National Gold Banks. Mr. Mills was a banker and philanthropist and for a time was California's wealthiest citizen. Your cataloger has always been fond of these private name banks because they always have a good story to tell. This modestly circulated example sold for $517.50 a decade ago.
