Giori Test Note Inverted Back Triple Serial Number Error
Grade:
PMG Ch. UNC 63
A fascinating item in every sense of the word. This Giori test note was printed in West Germany in the 1950s and has what is known as the "German Back." This note also has watermark along the bottom edge. The ones with Washington portrait at center are far more common than this type with Jefferson head at center. All Jefferson head Giori notes have an inverted back. So what makes this note so darn interesting is the serial number placement. Many of these Giori with inverted backs do not have serial numbers to begin with, so the ones with number are a lot scarcer. All of the auction results that we have been able to glean with inverted back and serial number all had only a single number. This note has a trio of different serial numbers placed at far left middle, left bottom, and far right middle. What is equally as fascinating is that all of the other examples we have viewed had the serial number and design imprint aligned the same; so serial number on face both upright or inverted serial number on inverted back. All three of these serial numbers are upright on the inverted back. That alone makes this a unique item that should prove immensely popular with the bevy of error note collectors out there.
