Scarce $5 First Charter Note
National Bank Notes > New York
Carthage, First NB, 2442
Fr. 404 $5 1875
Grade:
PCGS VG 10
A scarce upstate New York town which issued only First Charter Fives before entering receivership in 1898. By the early 20th century, there was only $670 outstanding on the bank. Roughly a dozen known now with this well-signed piece earning a VG/Fine designation from the grading gods. A challenging note however you slice it and one that should be avidly sought after to be brought home by one of this state's many collectors (elephants not included).
