Very Scarce New York City Original Series Ten
National Bank Notes > New York
New York, Mechanics Assoc. NB, 1075
Fr. 412a $10 Original
Grade:
PCGS Apparent VF 25
A mere 16 large size are listed in the census, all of which are First Charters due to the bank's liquidation in 1883. A much tougher New York City bank that has a lone $10 note listed in the census without a serial number so we can't be sure if this is that same note. PCGS states that it's been washed with faded colors and a small edge repair, all of which are problems that are rather overstated. The note is still well signed and the details not compromised by the aforementioned washing. Although this is the only $10 to sell we can perhaps draw inferences from the lone $20 on this bank which has sold numerous times. That note, graded PMG VF 25, has sold three times in recent years with an average price realized over $9,500. While that is certainly a superior note it goes to show how avidly collected higher denomination notes are on this bank.
