This charter was established in April 1887 and succeeded the Farmers & Merchants Bank. It was placed into voluntary liquidation in February 1888 and was succeeded by Ross & Emmert. The note is signed by Thomas J. Ross, President and James H. Bacon, Cashier. A remarkable survivor for a very short-lived bank of less than one year. The bank issued 562 sheets of $5 Brown Backs, nothing else. By 1910 there was a scant $150 outstanding. When you are looking for statistics these are amazing. Unique 22 years ago and still today. Notes like this are easy to enjoy. From the C. Dale Lyon Collection.
