The Fr. 1173a with the small serial numbers is far scarcer than the large serial number variety. These come both as mules and non-mules, and eight of the ten known stars are mules, as is this note, even though the holder fails to emphasize that fact. Well used and dirty, with the two heavy cross folds starting to separate at the intersection and at the top margin. This rarity is difficult to evaluate, since Track & Price has only been able to locate two instances where a Fr. 1173a star has been offered publicly. The most recent was a Very Fine 20 example that Stack's sold in February of this year for $14,950. I should think this lower grade example would be worth within our estimate range. Graded VG 08 by PCGS.
