EX: ALBERT A. GRINNELL
National Bank Notes > New Hampshire
Portsmouth, National Mechanics & Traders Bank, 401
Fr. 387 $2 Original
Grade:
VG
This bank had the largest total issue of any National Bank in Portsmouth. Chartered in 1864, the bank thrived until the Depression finally took them down. The bank liquidated in 1931 after issuing its first group of small size. Only 22 large notes exist and only a couple have any grade to them. There is a lone Lazy Two in the Kelley census without a serial number. It does indicate that a low grade $2 was lot #4196 in the A. A. Grinnell sale and indeed, this appears to be that note. Pretty good shape given the circulation. A blue spot at the right and a few old-time stamp hinge repairs on the back are noted. A great rarity from a bank not often seen.
