A magnificent #1 $5 Brown Back from a bank that was chartered in 1898 and closed nine years later in 1907 (maybe the Panic of 1907 had influence on this). Personally I'm fascinated by the Astor bank title but I can't figure out how to get more information. There are 18 Brown Backs known, of which 11 are $5s, but this is the only #1 known of any denomination. Lovely swirling pen signatures enhance the appearance.
