This is still the scarcer of the two Anoka banks and cost this consignor dearly years ago. Signatures were G.J Hastings, President and T.M. Olsen. The name Anoka was derived from two Indian words: the native Dakota, A-NO-KA-TAN-HAN, meaning "on both sides", or "from both sides", referring to its location on the banks of the Rum River and the native Ojibwa ON-O-KAY, meaning "working waters". The community was founded in 1850. Garrison Keillor, radio host of A Prairie Home Companion and author, was born in Anoka.
