This note is easily the finest known $10 and it does come with an intriguing bit of lore. The best I can figure out is this: the first three sheets of $10s were issued. An error was found and sheets #4-314 were returned to the BEP. Replacement notes starting with sheet #315 were issued. That makes this note akin to a #1 note as it came from the first replacement sheet. A similar situation exists for the $20s. Until a lower number note turns up we will never know for sure. The consignor has talked to two people who knew the bankers and no record was kept explaining the situation. In the meantime, Claire D. Moll (male) and C.A. Benson are known to us as signers. This note is tied for the finest of the eight small notes reported on this Nicollet County bank. It's been six years since this charter was offered.
