This note came from a group of serial numbers that were lost or stolen during shipment to the bank. A group of 450 sheets of $5 original series were stolen from the bank and "distressed" by the thieves so they would not stand out. At that time stolen or counterfeit notes were refused and returned to the bank, which sent them for redemption, leaving behind these for collectors. In October 2005 this note realized $3,200 in a CAA sale.
