This note has stamped signatures of J.B. Shaw, President and H.B. Shaw, Cashier. There are only 13 large notes recorded with this likely the second best. Paxton is named for Sir Joseph Paxton, a prominent architect in Chicago and major shareholder in the Illinois Central Railroad. In order to account for the higher elevation, railroad surveyors were forced to dig out ground so the trains would not have to change elevation. In places, track actually runs under Paxton.
