A wonderful pen signed note from this one bank town. This large size only charter issued Blue Seals from 1904 to 1924. One of 14 large notes reported with excellent pen signatures. Pawnee was settled in 1854 just fourteen miles from the state capitol, Springfield. Its residents were largely employed by the Peabody Coal Company, which, at one point, had the largest coal mine in the world just outside the town.
