An evenly circulated, problem free, pen signed note from this LaSalle County bank. One of 15 large notes reported. Although Peru lost the bid for the terminus of the Illinois & Michigan Canal to its twin city LaSalle, its position along the Illinois River with access to several rail lines allowed it to quickly spring to life as a shipping hub. The first coal mine in the area was opened in 1857 and was a major industry in the area for almost a century.
