A Montgomery County rarity with only five large notes recorded. The signatures are very weak but there. Coffeen is named for G. F. Coffeen, a farmer in the area who successfully petitioned the Toledo, St. Louis & Kansas City Railroad to pass through his farm in 1881. The village was incorporated in 1889.
