Nogales, Territory of Arizona, Sandoval NB, P6591
Fr. 613 $10 1902RS #2
Grade: Ch. AU
Nogales was established in 1880 by Jacob Isaac Isaacson who built a trading post along the border. Two years later, the first railroad between Mexico and the U.S. connected there. The proximity to the border has long served as a conduit between the two countries. There are five territorials known on this bank; four are red seals, one is only VG and the #1 is still in the Higgins Museum (I think). This is one of two serial #2 notes known and both are listed as AU. This is from the Huntoon Collection and had to be a source of great pride and joy. It bears a date of January 3, 1903, and the signatures of Bracey Curtis, Cashier and a very faint W. Schuckman, President. In 1906 the paid up capital was $50,000 and the deposits $120,000. This red seal, and its mate, are two of the three highest grade territorials on the state and it surely deserves a record price. From the Huntoon Collection.
