This note is 1 of 17 large notes recorded and may be the second best known. C.H. Brown, Cashier, also signed the second title on charter #241. Settlers first arrived in what would become Galesburg in 1836 and by 1837 had established the first anti-slavery society in Illinois. It was the site of the fifth Lincoln-Douglas debate as well as the birthplace of poet and author Carl Sandburg.
