#1 $5 Brownback Winona, MN

Winona, Second NB, 1842
Fr. 472 $5 1882BB #1
Grade:
Ch. AU
This is the "c" position #1 note, the first #1 note to be discovered from this early bank, located near the banks of the Mississippi. This beauty was signed, and probably saved by Wm. H. Laird and H.W. Laird. There are only nine other serial #1 $5 Brownbacks known from the state. In fact, there are only 38 #1 large notes known from the entire state - all types, denominations and series. There are two other $5 Brownback #1 notes known from Winona that we sold as part of the Power Collection that was offered at this show in 2006. This note would go along nicely with that pair. This must have come out of a frame as a couple of the corners have had slight, professional restoration.
